In a world of influencers, celebrity, power, and wealth, it is easy to be impressed by the external and to desire these things for ourselves. But ways of humans are not the ways of the Lord. After the Lord rejects Saul as king, Samuel is instantly drawn to the next best (tallest and attractive) thing. In response, God makes it very clear to Samuel that the things that humans are drawn to are not the ways of the Lord––whereas we tend to look at the external, God looks at the heart.
